Chapter 10. The LAN Access Profile

Introduction

Take a moment to consider the ease of use that wireless devices provide. The scenario of a wireless notebook or Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) user accessing data network services over a fixed network via a LAN Access Point (LAP) instantly conjures up images of simplicity and ease-of-use. The LAN Access Profile provides the capability of a data terminal (DT) device to wirelessly access the services provided by a LAP. Figure 10-1 and Figure 10-2 show the various scenarios that are supported by this profile.

The LAN Access usage model is capable of allowing notebooks or PDAs to behave as DTs, where both devices can access the services provided by the LAN Access Point.
