The Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) is a method for exchanging XML messages in a distributed environment. SOAP allows you to send messages and receive replies or error messages. You can think of SOAP as a remote procedure call mechanism for XML.
Although SOAP defines a basic message format, it does not define the actual message semantics. That is, apart from the basic message framework, SOAP doesnât specify the format for the actual data passed back and forth.
