5. Get Your Apple ID in Order

Chances are you already have an Apple ID, because one is required if you’ve ever bought anything from the iTunes Store, the Apple Online Store, or the Mac App Store. OS X users have been prompted to create an Apple ID when they set up their Macs for years. With Lion, Apple integrated the Apple ID directly into the system, allowing your Apple ID to serve as a alternate set of credentials to your usual username and password for system services such as file sharing, screen sharing, and account recovery. Beginning with Lion, the Apple ID was integrated into the Users & Groups preference pane (Figure 8), and you can create and modify your Apple ID from there.
