Clarify expectations at the beginning of your session and make sure that trainees understand the objectives and game rules. Misunderstanding can lead to resistance and disruptions. Make a contract with the group, agreeing on expectations, roles, responsibilities, and norms. Then make a checklist of participants' expectations; post them and refer to them during the game.

Intervene only when necessary; encourage participants to be assertive and not to rely on you to defend or protect them. Give support and be willing to accept it from the group. Ask for feedback and respond to it (see Giving and Receiving Feedback opposite). Be sensitive to whether trainees are comfortable with open or experimental activities. ...
