Synopsis
A name used to identify a Windows 2000 computer on a network.
Description
Windows 2000 computers have a dual identity on a network:
A computer name that is based on the Domain Name System (DNS)
A NetBIOS name that is used for communication with downlevel computers (those running an earlier version of Microsoft Windows, such as Windows NT 4.0)
Example
If the computer name is MS1
(for Member Server
One) and it belongs to the domain mtit.com, the full computer name is thus
MS1.
mtit.com.
