Chapter 6

Working with Scan Data

Data from a scan can sometimes be a very tricky mesh to work with. Often the axis and orientation of scan data is off in some distant space in our 3D applications. This is because when you scan data, the scanning system does not apply any world orientation; the scanner just lines up scans to create a completed mesh. For the project in this chapter, you will be projecting scan data into a topology-ready mesh. You will learn how to manipulate scan data and how to create a ball cap, and will end with creating hair for your character.
