Summary: There Are Many Keys to the Ethical Office

This book is about how to build an Ethical Office—your Ethical Office. If I had but one wish, I would inspire every person in every workplace to begin thinking and talking about their day-to-day ethics. Creating the ethical office does not require a lot of money, but it does take time.

Besides my Three Cs (above), employees need to:

  • Feel safe to express ethical concerns.
  • Have a designated person or department to approach with their concerns.
  • Feel free to ask any kind of question.
  • Know their concerns will be taken seriously and kept confidential.
  • Feel confident there will be no repercussions from opening the ethical discussion.

People who work together must learn to talk to each other in a different way that allows a discussion of tough questions to occur. If we could all begin communicating about the ethical dilemmas that worry and frustrate us, people would begin making different choices—and we could transform the workplace!
