You Are Who You Are

One of the reasons I’ve always loved the game of golf is that you play against yourself. If you cheat, you cheat yourself. Your golf game reflects who you are. Bobby Jones knew this. And I believe every one of you knows this as well. You may call me a Pollyanna, but I share President Abraham Lincoln’s belief in the “better angels of our nature.” We all want to do the right thing—and it’s easier when we work in a supportive culture.

Haven’t we all been tempted to just button it and “adjust” to an ethical dilemma instead of confronting and resolving it? We know, however, that these “adjustments” get easier and easier when we start making them routinely. When we don’t fight to hold the moral high ground, we quit on ourselves.
