Chapter 43. Portable Empire Heads West
The benefits of running a home business become even more obvious when you leave home. Especially if your home business is a Portable Empire.
One of the goals I've had is to increase my choices. We see these choice points go by: when someone cuts in front of you in traffic, when your mate says something cutting, when some business strategy just doesn't work—every moment of every day is a choice point.
The trick is to meet each choice point with the largest and most effective arsenal of choices. For example, let's take traffic. When someone cuts in front of you, what are your choices?
There was a time when my only choices were: (1) yell, lean on my horn, and give the one-finger salute or (2) tailgate the offender, and try to get them to pull over so we could "talk."
That's a fairly impoverished set of choices.
What are some other options? Well, every time someone cuts you off in traffic, you could mentally add a dollar to your personal pleasure fund. At the end of the week, you could make a rule that you have to spend the entire amount in your personal pleasure fund on something that you find relaxing. You'll start to look forward to rude drivers, and be grateful for them.
Or every time someone cuts you off in traffic, you could recite an ancient Haitian curse that you just made up on the spot that is guaranteed to make their noses and their reproductive organs exchange places. Imagine that...
