Tip 9: Read Your Employee Handbook and Other Materials Carefully

Many organizations publish handbooks and other materials for their employees. These pamphlets usually contain vital information. Yet many employees, especially those with experience elsewhere, never read them.

Don’t be casual in your use of company literature. Where else can you learn company policies that can keep you out of trouble? Where else can you discover important data that will prevent you from asking unnecessary questions? Take home all of the literature you are given and devote some time to it. Understanding your company and the benefits provided will not only help you start on the right foot, it will further your career.
