Seeing shadow shapes IN A PORTRAIT

The more complex the subject, the more fun it is to draw. Certainly one of the most challenging and rewarding is the portrait. In order to achieve a realistic likeness to the person being drawn, every relationship — size, angle and value — must be correct. However, it's immensely satisfying to do a portrait that also captures the character of the sitter.
