While looking through an adult education catalog, we discovered that out of eight course offerings in personal finance, only one included learning how to save.1 Does this mean Americans know most of what there is to know about saving? Or is there not wide enough interest in the topic?

A study of rates of personal saving across nations might be indicating a lack of interest in the U.S. The amount of money that Americans saved each year recently dipped below 1% of their annual income. However, the Japanese, on average, saved 6.5%, Germans, 10.6%, and the French, 11.4%.2 Should we be concerned about this?
