Out-of-line objects

There are times when it is convenient to remove an item from the normal text flow and place it at a new location on the page, or even on the next page. Large pictures often need to be moved to avoid leaving a significant gap at the bottom of a page, so that following text can occupy this space (preceding the image). Footnotes are moved to the bottom of a page, where they can be either read or ignored by the reader.

The major page regions can contain 'conditional' sub-regions at the top or bottom. These regions only appear if there is information to place within them, because a conditional sub-region grabs space from the region it is in.
