Book structure

The chapters in the first part of this book, Transformations (XSLT), cover the features of the XSLT language. They should be read in the order provided, as they each build on examples from previous chapters. At the very least, Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 should be read first. The second part, Formatting, describes XSL, and alternative formatting languages and stylesheets (HTML and CSS). Finally, the part entitled References includes information on how to analyze XML document type definitions (DTDs) and full details on the XPath standard.

Some familiarity with XML markup concepts is assumed. The reader should at least be comfortable with the syntax, scope and purpose of elements and attributes, with comments and processing instructions, ...
