Summary

This chapter explored SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language), an XML application that allows you to integrate media objects and synchronize their display and playback. SMIL provides an elegant way to integrate media elements to create rich Web-based multimedia experiences. Although it is quite powerful, the SMIL vocabulary is surprisingly compact. It can be used by hand to create SMIL presentations, or you can use it in conjunction with a SMIL authoring tool to automate the process of creating SMIL presentations.
