DDbE (Data Descriptors by Example) is a technology by the alphaWorks group at IBM that can be used to infer a DTD or XML Schema from an XML document or document set. This approach to generating a DTD from a document goes against the traditional XML development cycle—first you design a DTD, and then you create documents that adhere to it. Although it may seem unconventional, the DDbE technology is actually quite powerful because it allows beginning XML developers to create DTDs quickly without a strong foundation in DTD design.
