XML Authoring Tools

XML authoring tools are used to create and edit XML documents. The simplest of all authoring tools is the text editor, which isn't XML-specific but nonetheless provides a means of creating and editing XML documents. For example, I alternated between using the Microsoft Visual Studio editor and Windows Notepad to create the examples throughout this book. Whether you should use a more full-featured XML authoring tool has everything to do with your own personal preference.

As of this writing, there is a wide range of XML authoring tools available to suit practically any need and budget. The following is a list of some of the more popular XML authoring tools I've run across:
