Types of XML Tools

When I refer to an XML tool, I'm talking about a piece of software that eases the task of creating or manipulating XML code. Admittedly, this is a fairly vague description, but it is necessary when you consider the wide range of tools that support XML. Unlike HTML, in which a development tool equates to an HTML editor, the concept of an XML tool is much broader because XML is a more complex technology than HTML. XML documents can have associated DTDs and schemas, not to mention style sheets and complex scripts. Granted, HTML can also use style sheets and scripts, but they aren't really a requirement. XML requires such components in order for XML documents to be viewable.
