XML vs. RDBMS

At the beginning of the chapter, you looked at some scenarios when you may want to use XML as a data store, and some where you may not. It is not a choice between using either XML or a RDBMS. XML is a useful tool in the management of data, and an integrated data management system will probably use both XML and databases.

When to Use XML as an Adjunct to a Database

Use XML if your system has multiple servers and data stores. XML is an ideal way to send data from a Linux server to an NT server and vice versa. As you have seen, XML is also an ideal way to transfer data from one database to another.
