Using XML Islands

XML islands provide an easy method to instantiate an XML DSO, create a DOM object, and load it with an XML file. An XML island is created by using the xml element, which is a proprietary Microsoft HTML element.

Caution

Note that this is an HTML element, not an XML element. In fact, this element would be illegal in XML because it starts with the forbidden string xml.

Caution

XHTML is a rewriting of HTML as an application of XML. Therefore, the xml element is also clearly illegal in XHTML documents! It is doubtful that Microsoft will bother to change it, however. If you're using XHTML, an error will be thrown in an XML parser.
