Summary

Although it may be a little early to jump ship on DTDs and embrace schemas wholeheartedly, the XML community is clearly ready to make the move to schemas. Microsoft's partial XML Schema implementation has served as a great boost to get XML developers working with XML Schema. Even so, there are lots of existing DTDs out there. That's why this chapter explored the ins and outs of converting DTDs to XML Schemas, including both manual and automatic approaches. These approaches are equally important because many DTD conversions will require a combination of both; first you use a tool to automatically convert a DTD, and then you fine-tune the conversion by hand.
