24.10. attributeGroup Element

The attributeGroup element typically allows a global attributeGroup to be used in a complexType through the ref attribute. Because attributes correspond to attribute types whose structure type is just a simple type, refer to Chapter 23 to understand the design issues and example implementations.

The attributeGroup is best subsumed into the database table that refers to this attributeGroup, unless the attributeGroup is used in numerous places in the XML schema document and the attributeGroup is the subject of numerous queries that are independent of the complex types in which the attributeGroup is contained. Refer to Section 24.13 if the attributeGroup should not be subsumed.
