Appendix D. Data-oriented Schemas: Oracle8i Datatypes

This appendix covers the differences in mapping XML Schema datatypes between Oracle8i and Oracle9i. Oracle9i is a signifcant improvement over Oracle8i in terms of XML Schema datatype support. Database designers should determine if the differences are sufficient for their projects to warrant the upgrade. New projects should start out in Oracle9i, if possible.

This appendix is divided into two parts: a general overview of the functionality missing in Oracle8i and an appropriate, specific discussion of the consequences with implementations.
