1.6. Structure of Code Samples

All examples of XML, program code, operating system commands, and so on are typeset in a fixed-width font. They may occur in the middle of a line like this or as a block of lines:

Every code sample in the book has a code reference number associated with it, such as the one in the example above (1001.txt). Each reference number corresponds to a filename in the book subdirectory of the accompanying CD-ROM. As well as being able to access the relevant file directly, you will find a linked set of HTML pages on the CD-ROM that will allow you to find a particular file easily.
