Namespaces are an extremely important part of XML. You use namespaces to prevent naming conflicts when like-named elements and attributes are associated with different types of data structures and are used in the same document. In this chapter you’ll learn the essential concepts for working with namespaces and how you can use namespaces. You’ll also learn how to use namespaces with XML structures declared in document type definition (DTDs). Namespaces can just as easily be applied to XML schemas, which I’ll discuss in Chapter 8, Chapter 9, and Chapter 10.
