15.2. Past Work

The ideas illustrated in this chapter originate from past work on the integration of database technology and data-mining tools, and from the notion of an inductive database. In order to make clear our proposal, it is necessary to report this past work, showing the background that inspired our present work. In particular, we will consider two main data-mining problems: the association rule extraction problem and the classification problem.
