7.3. XML Access to SQL Server

Figure 7.1 shows a high-level architectural block diagram of SQL Server 2000's XML support. It is interesting to note that depending on the overall system or service architecture, different access components and/or protocols are preferable. If there is a limited amount of business logic, or when most of the business logic can be completely pushed either to the client (for example, via ECMAScript embedded in the HTML page) or to the database server (into the database's stored procedures), a simple HTTP or SOAP access mechanism suffices.
