tab

An invisible character, similar to a space character, but signifying a possibly wider gap that may be used in consecutive lines to create columns of information.

table

A collection of data arranged into rows and columns, from which a flat-file or relational database package can locate required information.

tag

A code embedded in the text, signifying the structure, format or style of the data. A tag is recognized from surrounding text by the use of delimiter characters. A common delimiter character for an XML tag is the chevron, '<'.

tag close

The character(s) indicating the end of a tag.

tail

The end-point of a hypertext link. Equivalent to the target of a link. A reference is traversed from the head to the tail. For example, a chapter ...
