The future

The most influential software vendors have backed XML, and have released numerous products to support it. XML is also at the heart of a number of industry initiatives (available from www.oasis-open.org/cover/xml.html#applications). If there was ever any serious doubt, the future of XML is certainly now secure. But there remains the question about its continued relationship with SGML and HTML, and whether there is room for all three languages.
