Chapter 28. Advanced links (XPointer)

It is possible to improve on the simple fragment identifiers that can be used with HTML documents. The XPointer standard provides the ability to reference many items, elements without identifiers, and points and ranges of text. This chapter is not essential reading for those who only need to be able to link to single elements that have unique identifiers.

XPointer is largely built on XPath expressions, so an understanding of this standard is essential (see Chapter 13).
