Database management

The jumble of technologies discussed so far are not easy to integrate, and some are not well supported. In addition, using a search engine to classifies documents is not satisfactory if the classifications are likely to change. For example, if all the documents classified under 'vector image formats' and 'raster image formats' needed to be re-classified under the single, new classification 'image formats', it might be necessary to edit all of the affected documents and then re-index them (though some advanced products allow new terms to be mapped to indexed terms). If the only reason for considering a search engine happens to be for classification purposes, then a database should be considered as an alternative.
