XML Catalog format

Although the use of catalogue files simplifies storage maintenance of XML documents, each XML-sensitive software application may use its own syntax for the catalogue filing system, in which case the information must be repeated for each application. In an attempt to avoid this unnecessary duplication, the SGML Open group has produced a standard format for SGML documents, and more recently a proposal has emerged for XML documents, called XML Catalog.
