Publishing from XML

Publishers are increasingly viewing their narrative structured content as valuable assets that should be stored in an audience-neutral and publishing medium-neutral format. A flexible content management system holds these assets in XML format, and complementary formats (for images and database-held data), for delivery or publication in any required manner. Fragments from many XML documents can be extracted from such systems, assembled into a new document, and formatted in different ways for publication on paper, CD-ROM and over the Internet:
