Chapter 19. SAX 2.0

While SAX 1.0 is extremely well supported by a number of XML parsers, it was recognized from the start that this API supplied the minimum requirements for a 'push-based' parsing technique. The need for rapid development and release of the standard, coupled with the need for widespread consensus, made this fact inevitable. Since its release, however, there has been time to define a more comprehensive interface. The need to support the Namespaces standard was also recognized. SAX 1.0 should be fully understood before reading this chapter.
