Chapter 9. XML extensions

XML can stand alone, but benefits from the assistance of adjunct standards. This chapter introduces the most significant general-purpose standards. These standards significantly enhance the functionality of XML, and the interoperability of compliant XML-based tools. This chapter also introduces the two main applications of XML that are covered in later parts of the book, and explains the purpose of further adjunct standards applicable to each of these areas.
