Background

Publishers of printed material typically provide a number of features to assist with the locating of required information. This may include a table of contents, numbered pages and an index. But some of these navigation techniques may become irrelevant when the document is published electronically. Document browsers have a number of new features for locating required material, including full-text and keyword searching. Most also include a hypertext linking capability. In the simplest case, when the reader encounters such text as 'see More Information for details', a software link provides instant access to the specified section.
