Syntax overview
These initial chapters have introduced XML elements and attributes, and a few other constructs, but there is still much more to this standard. The following illustration includes examples of almost all the important features of the XML format. Many of the mechanisms shown are optional, including some that are rarely used (many of these are in the process of being replaced by new, separate standards that are discussed later). Each major feature of XML is labelled in the diagram below to facilitate quick look-up of any unknown concepts:
