In this chapter, I've introduced some examples of further applications for XML and SQL. The concept of a Web service, in particular, is one you can apply to any of the subjects covered in this book and is a key enabling technology for the kind of business transformation that I talked about in the Introduction. The ability for businesses to interact with each other, through global networks, using “loosely coupled” technology such as Web services will also be an accelerator for those businesses. It will make the technology they rely on simpler and more modular and thereby make it easier for business to evolve and innovate, that is, to move faster.
