Installing and Configuring Tomcat

Tomcat is also from the Apache Software Foundation, as part of the Jakarta project. Virtually identical to Sun's Java Server Web Development Kit, from which it was originally derived, Tomcat can be downloaded from

http://jakarta.apache.org/downloads/binindex.html

or

http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/tomcat/

Download the latest release build (as opposed to the milestone builds) and uncompress it into the directory you want to use. If you want to match the instructions here, uncompress the files into your root directory and then rename the resulting jakarta-tomcat directory to be simply tomcat.
