What do you do when you're finally ready to implement XRBL? This chapter helps you get where you want to be with the fewest hiccups. It provides key information to help you understand snarls that others have encountered and how to avoid them. We also cover how to identify good consultants and determine the consulting expertise your project may need. Don't expect this chapter to show you everything you need to know about implementing XBRL. This book just helps you get started down the right path.

Discovering Your Vision

If you really don't care about where you're going, just start doing something, and you'll definitely end up somewhere! Now, we don't subscribe to that approach because most of us do care about where we end up.

Tip

The first part of creating a plan is having a vision of where you want to be when you're done implementing that plan. (See Part II of this book as well as Chapter 9 to help hone in your vision.) When you decide on a vision, be sure to live within your capabilities. Don't go overboard right away — we suggest you start with a prototype or proof of concept to get a feel for the waters.
