After public speaking, I reckon calling strangers on the phone ranks right up there for most freelancers as an activity they’d walk over broken glass to avoid. That’s broken glass someone’s set on fire first. And stuck in cement so the pointy bits face upwards. Which is a shame because it’s really effective for winning business. So why the reluctance? Mining my own feelings for the answers, here are a few possibilities:
• They might reject me.
• I might not get through.
• Suppose they get cross because I’ve interrupted their day.
• I’ll feel embarrassed.
• They might be a lot more senior than me.
