Chapter 6. Principle 5: Develop a Collaborative Relationship with External Partners

Outsourcing to external partners has increased so much that I focus this last, large principle on it. I believe it is now an important weapon in the arsenals of most CIOs at medium or large companies. I present it last because it follows logically from the previous chapter about IT and business partnerships. Under principle 4, the CIO works with the business to understand that which is strategic and that which is not. Under the fifth principle, the CIO and his team can determine which of the aspects of IT that are not strategic can be outsourced.
