4.3. Metrics

Project management, portfolio management, governance; these are areas in which IT should become "best in class" for the company. The reason is that IT departments tend to have so many and in some cases the majority of projects for a company as the percentage of project costs dedicated to IT projects increases. The proof of this is in the metrics (Table 4.1). I have listed a great number of metrics here. I must reiterate that the point is not to institute all of these. If an IT department attempted to do so, it probably would be keeping too much data, which can be almost as problematic as keeping too little data. Rather, I have included so many ideas so that the reader can have many options to choose from.
