5.4. IT's Partnering with the Company and Its Broader Company Role

This is the principle through which IT touches the rest of the business. It is in many ways the most important of the principles. As mentioned earlier, the first three principles are foundational, and if they are not operating at a high level, then it will be impossible for IT to establish a true partnering relationship with the business. It is also important to separate out the other part of this principle, however: if IT does not establish a partnering relationship across the IT department itself, it certainly will not be an effective partner to the business either.
