The Patching Cycle

There are four phases in the ongoing cycle of maintaining a well-patched, up-to-date network:

  • Assessment

  • Identification

  • Evaluation and planning

  • Deployment

Each of these phases is essential to the successful management of updates on your server.

Given the relative simplicity of SBS 2011 Essentials networks, and the constrained IT budgets of most people, you can combine and simplify the overall process a bit, and probably even bypass phases on occasion.
