As with any lengthy endeavour, there are many people to acknowledge.

I would first like to thank Stephanie Taylor for her invaluable support in the development of this book. Although Steph agreed to co-edit this volume, to my lasting regret, the cessation of funding to UKOLN meant that intensive collaboration became impossible. I would also like to congratulate Steph on her role as a Senior Consultant in Academic Research Technologies at the University of London Computer Centre.
