In Odoo 11, the type of account is used by the various reports to determine whether that account should be included, and if so, where on the report to include that account. Clicking on one of the accounts will bring up the account, along with an example report structure so that you can see just how that account type will be represented.
Click on the Account Payable account in the Chart of Accounts list view:
