Who’s Out There?
When I talk about who is out there, I think of McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog. After making us kids aware of some dangerous entity (that if not delivered from by a disarming cartoon character would have shaken our innocence) he’d say, “Take a bite out of crime.” If only it was that easy online. It’s easy to identify suspicious activity in the real world. “That guy in all black breaking into my car is trouble,” right? Well on the Internet you can’t know who’s attempting to visit your site. That’s sort of the point; you want your content available to everyone. In this chapter we’ll go over the three most likely attackers so you can better protect yourself.
