Developer's perspective of a shortcode

The developer is responsible for building the shortcode, unless you only plan to use the shortcodes available in the WordPress core. The shortcode needs to be created using the API functions and registered with WordPress using a plugin or theme. The preceding diagram shows the basic syntax of a shortcode from a developer’s perspective.
