Converting an Existing Document

When you open a document from Word 97-2003 or Word 2007-2010 (New!), Word 2013 goes into compatibility mode—indicated on the title bar—where it disables new features that cannot be displayed or converted well by previous versions. When you save a document, Word 2013 saves Word 97-2003 or 2007-2010 files in their older format using compatibility mode. The document stays in compatibility mode until you convert it to the Word 2013 file format. Word 2007-2010 and Word 2013 use the same file extensions, however there may be feature differences between the versions.
